Resettling Hope
Resettling Hope is a multimedia project about two Afghan families recently resettled to Alexandria, Virginia, under the Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) program. These families chose to leave their homes because their work with American Personnel and non-governmental organizations in Afghanistan place them and their families in grave danger.
Upon arriving in the United States, these families face many challenges including language barriers, unemployment, the shocking cost of living, depression and loss of community identity. The limited benefits these families receive from the U.S. Government covers just the first 30 days after arrival. After that these families are on their own to tackle the challenges of a new and complex system.
This project shares the sacrifice these families have made, as well as the challenges they face and possible solutions to help them rebuilding their lives and contribute to their new homes and communities.
